What's changed in the game: new features, units, game modes and improvements.
Launchv1.0
Accounts, ranked matches and Season 1
WARHEAD now has a public website, commander accounts and a leaderboard. Every verified match earns you experience, and 1v1 ranked matches set your rank.
Free account: commander name, level from 1 to 100, profile with stats, match history and achievements.
1v1 ranked matches with a Glicko-2 rating and nine ranks, from Recruit to Marshal.
The server re-simulates every match before counting it: results can’t be faked.
Matches shorter than one minute don’t count, so XP can’t be “farmed”.
The maps have come to life: houses and bunkers that infantry can garrison, plus tech buildings you capture with an engineer.
Civilian houses (4 soldiers) and abandoned bunkers (6 soldiers): soldiers fire from inside with extra range. Right-click to enter, D to leave.
The oil derrick brings in $100 every 5 seconds.
The field hospital heals infantry, the repair depot fixes nearby vehicles.
New map objects: fences, sandbags, tank traps, barriers and barrels that explode in a chain reaction.
Editorv0.8
Map editor: 2–8 bases and huge maps
The map editor has grown: maps up to 192×192 and 2 to 8 starting positions, with an automatic check that the map is playable.
Terrain, elevation, ore, objects and neutral buildings, all from the same toolbar.
Save in the browser or export as a JSON file; test the map right in the game.
Skirmishes against the AI now support up to 7 opponents.
Multiplayerv0.7
Multiplayer for 2–8 players
Named rooms, teams, co-op games against the AI and chat, over the internet or on your local network.
Modes: free-for-all, teams picked by the players, co-op against the AI.
Reconnect: you have 60 seconds to get back into the match after an internet drop or a page refresh.
Chat in the room and in game (Enter).
Campaignv0.6
Three campaigns, 18 missions
Each faction now has its own 6-mission campaign, with briefings, objectives, reinforcements and attack waves.
Allies: Shield of Europe, Soviet Bloc: The Bear Awakens and Shadow Legion: Mind over Metal.
Varied objectives: destroy, build, defend, survive, garrison buildings, take over units with mind control.
Missions unlock one after another, and your progress is saved to your account.
Gameplayv0.5
A smarter opponent
The AI plays better on all three difficulty levels.
It expands its economy with more harvesters and refineries.
It picks its army based on yours: anti-tank against armor, anti-infantry against soldiers.
Transport raids, air strikes, fleets and superweapons; on Normal and Hard it retreats when it’s losing a fight.
It garrisons the houses and bunkers around its base with soldiers.
Sound
War music
Battles now have a soundtrack: eight tracks by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com), under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license.
Among them: “Summon the Rawk”, “Metalmania”, “Ready Aim Fire” and “Five Armies”.
Music can be turned off from the game menu.
Gameplayv0.4
Saves and replays
Because the simulation is deterministic, an entire game is just its settings and the orders given. That makes saves and replays possible without huge files.
Up to 12 saves in the browser, plus download as a file.
Replays at 1×, 2×, 4× and 8×, with pause.
The same technology powers match verification on the server.
